Loseley Park near Guildford will play host to the only Royal Air Force themed event celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a concert and flying display on Saturday June 23rd 2012.
A unique opportunity to spend an evening with the RAF as they salute
Her Majesty the Queen in her Diamond Jubilee year.
Taking centre stage during the concert, The Military Wives Choir, who have enjoyed phenomenal success with their Christmas No.1 song, ‘Wherever You Are’ and their No.1 album, ’In My Dreams’.
Joining them, local ‘Military Wives’ groups, inspired by their efforts.
One of the country’s top military bands, The Central Band of the Royal Air Force, will play a selection of music choreographed to images, video and aircraft reflecting the RAF’s ‘Royal’ connections over the past 60 years. Giant screens will display the action on stage and in the air for all to see.
Hosting this special event is Classic FM presenter and former royal correspondent Nicholas Owen.
Her Majesty the Queen has strong links with the RAF, three generations have been taught to fly or parachute, including the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and the now serving Flight Lieutenant William Wales, the Duke of Cambridge.
The concert will look back to those dark days of the Battle of Britain when a lone Spitfire pilot rammed a German bomber approaching Buckingham Palace, in which the Royal Family stayed, potentially saving the life of the young Princess Elizabeth, through to the work undertaken by Prince William today with the RAF Search and Rescue teams. The event will end with an uplifting patriotic finale.
Colin Hitchins, Managing Director of Synergy Events UK, said “To have the opportunity to help create such a unique event in support of the Royal Air Force is a privilege, when we start the planning the sky is literally the limit. Loseley Park will certainly be the biggest and most adventurous we have staged so far and I can’t think of a better venue in which to host the RAF Musical salute to the Queens Jubilee”
“ Many thousands of people will attend airshows around the country but none will see the likes of this event, as well as stimulating all of the senses those attending will also go on an emotional journey.”
“We have been asked on many occasions to describe the event and the closest we can get is musical theatre, but musicals do not usually include one and a half hours of flying from some of the best pilots in the world”
Director of Music for The Central Band of the RAF Flt Lt Richard Murray said “We absolutely love performing alongside the RAF’s assets and supporting the RAFA (Royal Air Force Association). Over the years composers have blessed us with great music depicting the great feats of bravery in the sky; it’s exciting, thrilling yet poignant just like the aircraft”
