had a good week at Pontings most of the acts wereIrish and the Spirit of Ireland was brilliant, if it comes near you do try and see it,
I did my usual of sitting with my crafts and sold £14 of the jewellery I was making for St Elizabeth Hospice, still got a fair bit for the shop will take in on Thursday, it is mostly bits people have brought in like odd earings and broken bits that I recycled, and some I just redesigned as they had not sold, so was really pleased that some sold there. I also did a bit more of the quilt ( wish I never started that one lol) and finally finished the table cloth, don't have time to do much like that at home. also been playing with the air dry moidelling stuff, and am trying it out on hairslides etc, let you know if it works

was a little disapointed in that it was mainly just bits of tatty parchment, with little extra information, very good if one is new to it, much more in the Egyptian rooms, spend the morning there and walked too far, (only draw back of my magic shoes) so suffered the next day, but have always loved the Brtitish Museum
am seriously thinking about joining the club along with one of the grands ( you get to hands on some stuff, and can sleep over ). On the only touch table I found manned they had some beautifully worked stone for tools, one in a crystal stone was all glitery and must have been quite a status symbol, they didn't look like they would have been part of a handled tool, ( no grooves in the place where it would have been attached to the wood, and he also had a grinding stone/ nut opener, things like that 'talk' to me when I hold them.

memories
By seaspirit (magda) c
came across a picture the other day of the street traders in
london, I remember the straw chair man, who patiently showed me how
to weave the straws to make a seat on an old stool I had, we also
had a man who used his bike pedals to turn a stone that sharpened
knives and sissors, the rag man ofcourse with his lovely gipsy
horse, like a tiny shire and the organ man that came and played
while we danced in the street. we had a coal yard nearby and I
would sometimes go and help groom the horses at the end of their
day, and get a ride back to the stable as a reward, and while the
dairy wouldn't let me in with the horses, I did 'drive 'our
milkmans horse, he wouldn't ofcourse go anywhere except where he
normally went off by himself to meet the milkman further along his
round, he left when the horses went, as he got fed up with having
to keep going back for the van, that wouldn't learn to go to the
next point like the horse did. I also got a ride on the police
horse that led the cornation procession, and helped the zoo
keepers feed the animals ( think I got nipped by everything
rodent like, over the years . The other animals didn't nip )..the
other horses were the army horses and we used to see who could
sneak past the guard to take carrot to the horses, went past it
last summer and they now have ornate gates, no sneaking past
them. Think my deep love of ancient history was due to
a guard at the museum, who took me down to the store, where I
handled things that were so old it was past my understanding at the
time how old they were, we had some medieval jewellery, but the
museum stuff was from the dawn of time, and quite awesome.
kids miss so much these days, it would be more the the men's job worth to allow a child to do it today, we arn't even allowed to help with the harvest any more.

the time walk museum weymouth
By seaspirit (magda) c
was there a few years ago, a cat takes
you through the history of weymouth, very interesting displays, you
start in the office, then follow the cat through time
the cotton runs

my explorer was very interested in this museum and it took us nearly all day to get round it, part of a very nice caravan holiday down there, these were the only photos that came out unfortunately.

walking difficulties
By seaspirit (magda) c
may have put this somewhere else, but the health blog seems a good
place to at least repeat it.
I have walking pain due to arthritus in the leg joints, and seem to have found a smart solution.
normally I can only walk a few yards before it gets difficult, but noticed that my country and western boots, made a difference, which are a bit facy for every day use, but you can get what they call practice line dancing shoes, that have the western boot special shock absorbant heel and are a smart lace up that goes with pretty well everything ( you need a size larger like a boot) which allows me to walk about for several hours before it gets too uncomfortable.
you only seem to be able to get them on the net, type in western boot and there are several British firms that do them

brookwood cemetry near London

this sounds a bit morbid, but is a fasenating study of bereavement. It has a interesting history and did have it's own railway to bring coffin and mourners out from London, so there are no old graves, but does support a victoria cross grave. It is set out in communities, like little village cemtries and family plots like little gardens of rest, it cover many religions, each using thier own customs.
There is also a whole portion set aside for war graves, the USA site ofcourse being the biggest complete with flying flag but several counries are represented.
They do themed walks round the site, based on the flora and fauna found on the site ( appointment needed)
It was quite cold and rainey the day we went and the local pub was really welcome and the meal pretty good before the walk back to the station
would like to go on a better day in the summer and visit the wilder areas where the flora and fauna are.
