The Brown Sign Way

By Mary B
I have recently come across this new website thanks to my work at Godalming Museum (which has a Brown Sign) and wanted to share it with you.  www.thebrownsignway.com

Amanda Hone is an Occupational Psychologist who came up with the brilliant idea of capturing information about all the brown signs across Britain. Amanda was originally going to write a book, but this changed to a website, which will eventually have all the information about all the brown signs, with links to other websites that are relevant.

The idea and all the work this involves has taken over Amanda's life. She now works as a waitress in the evenings so she can work on the website during the day, although she does still do the occasional Occupational Psychologist job too. Amanda has made the decision to throw herself into the website, not make any money from it for at least a while, or until she can put relevant advertising on the site e.g. The National Trust or English Heritage etc.

Amanda is very happy for me to add the link from this blog to
www.thebrownsignway.com
Her own blog can be found at   http://thebrownsignway.blogspot.com

You can find a map of south east brown signs here, which include Godalming Museum and other local attractions.

A quote about Amanda made me realise why she understands DropBy:

"You feel drawn to the isolated, the unusual, the quirky, the defiant and meaningful.  You empathise with the awkward, the courageous, the outsider, the passionate, the geeky and the obsessed.  You side with the lonely, the ignored, the forgotten and the underestimated.  This, to me seems to be nearer the heart of why you love brown signs.  You are a brown sign".

Thank you Amanda, and good luck with your website and your plans.
